Inspired by Chen Hexi’s work, this painting depicts a wide prairie under a cloudy sky. I was drawn to the subtle contrast between the softness of the grass and the heavy, shifting greys above. There’s a quiet melancholy in this scene — not sadness, but a gentle, contemplative calm. Through this study, I hoped to capture that fleeting feeling of stillness before a change in weather.
